A new poetry book by Nenad Šaponja has been published in Prometej’s “Mysterious Point” edition. The book, divided into three cycles—Sweet Silence, The Confusion of Recognition, and Trust in the Body’s Suit — consists of 33 poems of highly aesthetic expression, recognizable as part of Šaponja’s body of work. His poetry continues to be marked by a poetic consistency that few individual authorial projects possess. “Poetry reaches the deepest layers of being, both when read and when written. Is there anything more serious and joyful at the same time in this world?” says the poet. Draško Ređep once wrote about his work: “There are no prejudices, no preconceived judgments. With an open mind, our renowned contemplative poet not only allows but encourages different perspectives. His atlas of experiences does not move or withdraw before us; instead, it multiplies endlessly.” About his new poetry book, the author writes: “This book is written for all of you who dare to think, and even to read aloud in a world of accelerated and inverted meanings of everyday life, that poetry is the drama of being, a ticket for the soul on the path of recognition… a place of dialogue, a walk on the edge, a flight without wings, a dream that lasts… that exciting place where we both are and are not, at the same time within and beyond time…” As in his previous poetry books, Šaponja’s poetic expression is very specific and distinctive. “His verses are precise and delicate, with subtle metaphors and imagery. His departure from the material and the aggressive triviality of daily appearances, and his entry into the realms of ideas and principles, from aesthetic to philosophical, to which this poet is dedicated, demands attention and highly active collaboration from the reader in understanding the poetic work. The results of this approach and worldview rise to the heights of enjoyment in intellectual constructions and pure poetry that celebrates the power of language.” – I. Bakić
